Cipher Newscast

In this video me and my classmates made a newscast about the scytale cipher. The scytale cipher was used by the ancient Greeks to send messages between allies without enemies finding the message. It works by wrapping a piece of paper around a stick and writing the message so if an enemy accesses the paper, they need a stick with the same diameter to wrap it around.

To prepare for the newscast we wrote scripts for our respective sections and we each took turns recording our section. We messed up a lot and included some of the bloopers at the end. Everyone played a main role in their section and most of us were side characters in the other’s sections. For example I was the person tasked with the first story but I also played as the person watching the commercial.

I had fun with this project, especially because I was working with friends. I learned things about a cipher I knew nothing about before, it’s a simple but effective (for its time) cipher that anybody can use. This project was fun and I hope to do more like it in the future.
