Sean Plouffe - Shop Cycle #5: Linking the Past to the Present: C (the programming language)
C is arguably one of the most influential programming languages of all time. It influenced other very popular programming languages such as Javascript and C# by setting up many of the standards we use today. It was developed in part by Dennis M. Ritchie who, at the time, worked for AT&T Bell Laboratories.
C revolutionized the country because many of the modern conveniences we enjoy would not have happened if C were to not be invented. Javascript and PHP, both languages influenced by C, are used in just about every website we use, allowing for more functionality beyond reading text.
Windows Operating System, the most popular Operating System used in industry, was developed in C. Windows OS’s popularity allowed a sort of standardization that enabled cross compatibility between two different computers. For example if a program written on one machine was inserted into another it would still work.
